Warm Weather Hazards

  • Make sure pet's water bowl is full!
  • Mosquitos, fleas and ticks are external parasites that dwell on your pet's health!
  • Give your pet shelter from the sun and also from the humidity!
  • When traveling with your pet, carry a first aid manual, a first aid kit and emergency phone numbers!
  • Check your pet's pads frequently.  Pads tend to get worn and blistered from extracurricular activities.  Avoid black top surfaces and other harsh/hot pavements!
  • Do not leave your pet in a car unattended!  Dangerous temperatures can occur even after a couple of minutes!
  • Even dogs that are great swimmers should wear a life jacket when boating!
  • Don't let your pet ride in the back of an open pick-up truck!  Even when tied down, dogs are know to jump out and hand themselves!
  • Ask guests to not feed your dog scraps when picnicking!
  • Some garden plants can be toxic to pets.  Do research before selecting plants for your summer garden!
  • Chemicals to control weeds in gardens and lawns are toxic to dogs and cats.  Speak with your lawn care professional before exposing your pet to recently sprayed areas!

The suggestions mentioned above are just a few of the hazards your pet may encounter during the warmer months.  Unfortunately, strange things can happen and it is not possible to list all of the things to protect your pet.
